Among 1,246 retired markets where DexBrief recorded both endpoints, the median observed lifespan was 18 days. This is a conditional result for observed closures, not the lifespan of every memecoin launched.
What percentage of crypto tokens fail?
This archive cannot calculate the failure rate of every token launched because it is a list of retired markets, not a complete launch cohort. Among the retired markets with measured lifespans, 35% were retired within seven observed days.
Are memecoins dead?
This archive cannot establish that most memecoins die. It shows how quickly the subset of markets DexBrief watched retire disappeared from its active catalog. New launches and active survivors are outside this archive.
What is a rug pull, and does this list show them?
A rug pull is when a project's operators withdraw liquidity or abandon a token, leaving holders unable to sell. This archive does not label rug pulls. It records only what can be observed: a market existed, and then it did not. Liquidity leaving is consistent with a rug pull, with a failed project, and with ordinary loss of interest, and DexBrief cannot tell those apart from market data alone.
How many dead crypto tokens are there?
DexBrief has archived 3,156 of them so far, including 2,403 on Solana and 473 on Robinhood Chain. This is the exact count in DexBrief's tracked catalog, not an estimate of every dead token across all chains.
Archive versus survival research
This archive describes markets already recorded as retired. It answers what the observed lifespans of those closures looked like. DexBrief's separate survival study compares eligible launch cohorts, including markets that remained active, under stricter age and coverage rules.
How a market enters this archive
DexBrief records a market from the first time it enters the catalog. It appears here only after the lifecycle process marks that exact contract as retired following repeated market checks. Nothing here is a prediction or an accusation. Retirement means DexBrief no longer found a market worth keeping active; it does not prove that trading stopped everywhere.
- Stopped trading - no qualifying activity remained where DexBrief was observing the exact contract.
- No tradeable market - repeated checks also found no live pair at all.
- Activity collapsed - the market still resolved but stopped moving enough to track.
- Observed lifespan - first catalog observation to last market observation. It is not necessarily the token's literal launch-to-final-trade lifespan. Blank values are excluded from medians and percentages.
- Not included - assets DexBrief still records as trading, however stale their last DEX observation looks. A token listed on central exchanges keeps trading long after its on-chain pair stops being visible to us.
- Conditional statistics - every percentage on these pages describes markets DexBrief watched retire and, where stated, only those with both observation endpoints. It is not a failure rate for every token launched.
Archive currently holds 3,156 retired markets. A rebuild removes any market that has since returned to active status.
