Why this data does not exist elsewhere

Market aggregators quietly remove tokens once their markets disappear, so the public record always describes the survivors. DexBrief keeps its own retirement log: every page it publishes is re-checked against free market data on a schedule, and a token is marked retired once no tracked pair remains. That log is what makes a mortality rate measurable at all.

Across 2,443 tracked launches, 1,702 no longer have a tradeable market. The figures below are regenerated automatically as the dataset grows, and the underlying rows are downloadable so anyone can check the arithmetic.

Methodology

  • Population: 2,443 tokens first covered at least 30 days ago. Younger cohorts are excluded because they have not had a fair chance to fail.
  • Established assets are excluded (1,561 removed): any token carrying a CoinGecko market-cap rank is a mature listing, not a new launch, and including them would overstate survival.
  • A token counts as no longer trading when repeated automated checks find no tracked market pair across at least 3 consecutive refreshes and no aggregator listing remains.
  • This measures loss of a tradeable market, not a formal project shutdown. A token whose market returns is re-counted as trading on the next check.
  • Coverage is not a random sample of all launches: tokens enter DexBrief only after passing liquidity and volume gates, so the true mortality rate across all launches is very likely higher than reported here.
  • Older cohorts can show lower mortality than newer ones. That is a selection effect, not a survival effect: early coverage admitted far fewer tokens per day under stricter gates, so those cohorts started from a stronger population. Compare cohorts against each other with that in mind rather than reading the age bands as a survival curve.
